Saint Barthelemy airport: airlines to come by plane
The 650 meters of runway at Saint Barts airport does not allow large aircraft to land. 25 km away, the neighboring island of Saint Martin has an international airport: “Princess Juliana airport” where it is very easy to reach Saint Barthélemy. Many companies land there. The Raizet Caribbean Pole Airport (Pointe à Pitre) in Guadeloupe also serves the destination of Saint Barts.

St Barts airport: history
Before the construction of the current St Barts airport, the few planes that dared to land in Saint Barth landed in a large savannah at St Jean, wedged between a hill on one side and the sea on the other, the waiting room was at the shadow of a tree, feet in the stones.
In 1946, the French adventurer Rémy de Haenen landed an airplane for the first time on the island in the middle of a savannah area where the airport was to be built. Then, in November 1984, the premises of Saint-Jean-Gustave-III airport were inaugurated and were completely rebuilt. Lastly in 2015, Saint Barthélemy airport was renamed “Rémy-de-Haenen” in tribute to the pioneer of aviation in the Caribbean who later became mayor of Saint-Barth.
